About GRSPSociety

GRSPSociety is an open network of organizations and individuals committed to advancing Romania's development and modernization through civic involvement and professionalism. GRSPSociety currently has over 1,000 members in over 15 countries, including over 100 members actively working on our executive teams and on the teams of our 17 projects (www.grspsociety.org/projects) within our 10 working groups (www.grspsociety.org/wg).

General Role

The Assistant Director for Projects is responsible for working with the Vice President Internal Development to ensure that GRSPSociety projects have the necessary support and coaching in order to carry out its strategic objectives and successful implementation. To do this, the assistant director will support the project planning; provide advice to project leaders and solutions for road-blocks; update the executive board on the project progress, along with maintaining a list of current projects members and partners & sponsors and tracking the execution of the projects' budget.

All positions within GRSPSociety, down to its executive board, are unpaid and volunteer-based. The projects are the core of GRSPScociety and their success represents the success of the organization. While working with the project leaders and their teams, you can gain valuable management and coaching experience.

There are no geographic requirements for this position. We are committed to being an international organization, and our teams span several continents. We carry out much of our communication over email and Skype.

The candidate should be interested or have experience in coaching and project management.

Responsibilities
• Create and implement annual fundraising plan and strategy
• Lead and manage the association's overall development efforts to raise the annual budget; work with the treasurer to achieve this
• Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts
• Cultivate relationships with current and potential corporate & foundation sponsors
• Develop and grow our individual donor base
• Support working group staff with information and know-how in achieving their fundraising needs
• Coordinate the fundraising efforts for the Annual GRSPSociety Conference (to be held in November 2010)
• Write grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation, and government funders
• Work with the Communications Director to help in the developement and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy
• Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, often events-based
• Lead and manage fundraising for the new GRSPSociety Bucharest office

Requirements
Willingness to commit at least 4 hours per week for the above mentioned responsibilities (position not limited by geography), and enthusiasm for GRSPSociety's goals. Experience in the field of fundraising and grant writing is a plus.

About the GRSPSociety Working Groups

The GRSPSociety working groups are the main functional units of the association. They allow our members to develop projects within their professional and academic fields of interest that address Romania and/or Romanian communities. The groups are meant to serve as a catalyst for civic, professional, and academic projects that benefit Romanian communities while giving its members a chance to collaborate with academics and professionals with similar interests from around the world.

It is generally expected that the working groups will function independently. While potential projects may involve a wide variety of activities such as research, advocacy campaigns, events, or social entrepreneurship, working group activities are dictated by the interests and initiatives of its members and depend on decentralized leadership from working group members and chairs. GRSPSociety, in turn, provides its working groups with guidance and with support in raising funds, recruiting human resources, and forging ties with relevant partner organizations for its projects..

Membership in the working groups is free, voluntary, and not limited by geography.

Description of the GRSPSociety Working Group Chair Position

Working group chairs provide guidance and leadership to the working groups.

They are responsible for ensuring that working groups are meeting basic performance objectives set together with the board and WG members.

The chairs work closely with the WG Project leaders by offering guidance, coaching, support, and execution where necessary. They are also meant to serve as a bridge between the GRSPSociety Board and the working group members by communicating to board members how projects are progressing and what resources they need.

For 2010, these objectives mainly involve the cultivation and successful realization of member projects. Projects are meant to meet the following four objectives:

• Make a positive impact on Romanian communities with the help of GRSPSociety’s international network
• Build the working group active member base by creating concrete ways for potential members to get involved
• Stimulate partnerships with other organizations
• Raise the profile of GRSPSociety and its working groups

The working groups are broadly autonomous and meant to work “from the bottom up”. However, working group chairs are expected to work together with the GRSPSociety Board—primarily through the two vice presidents in charge of working group development—to supervise and provide high-level guidance and motivation in the implementation of projects by project coordinators and their teams. The GRSPSociety board together with the chair will help vet projects and ensure that projects have all necessary financial and human resources, guidance, and the support of relevant partner organizations for its projects. Chairs will be accountable for maintaining group activity on a consistent basis and for having at least 1-2 successful group projects per year, while project leaders will be accountable for project success on an individual project level.

1. Project Leader

a) General responsibilities

General Role
The project leader is responsible for ensuring the completion of the GRSPSociety working group project. Thus, while enjoying active help and feedback from the working group chair and members of the GRSPSociety board, the project leader will be the person responsible for determining the overall project strategy and coordinating the activity of the project team.

Responsibilities:
Lead the planning of the project:
· Define the project scope, goals and deliverables
· Define project tasks and the job descriptions of the project team
· Define resource requirements (budget, support from partner organizations, etc.)
· Plan project timelines

Lead the implementation of the project:
· Coordinate project activity by providing direction and support to the project team
· Manage project budget
· Track project deliverables
· Monitor and report on the progress of the project to the GRSPSociety board
· Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs
· Evaluate the project and assess its results

b) Specific responsibilities

· Identify potential diaspora mentors
· Publicize initiative in various online communities from Romania and abroad
· Coordinate with other GRSPSociety project to create joint mentorship initiatives (for example: http://www.grspsociety.org/project/mentorship-for-success )
· Manage Health and Medical Research GRSPSociety website knowledge and content (databases, partnerships, credentials, areas of focus)

- Relevant professional/academic experience or genuine interest in the project field
- Ability to commit an average of 4 hours per week to project leader responsibilities

Works with: ARCADIA Board
Manages: Working Group Coordinators

ARCADIA is a professional organization from Romania which aims to create a community of scholars, practitioners, policy-makers and experts in the areas of development and international cooperation. Structurally the organization should function as a network of networks enabling those who work on the relations between Romania and various parts of the world/countries or on thematic issues related to development and international cooperation to form working groups and engage in joint projects and activities.

The role of the Network Development Manager is twofold: to ensure the proper functioning of existing working groups and to facilitate the development of new working groups. The Network Development Manager has a strategic role in the organization and requires managerial and networking skills from a person at ease (or motivated by a job) with project management and social media networking tools.

Tasks:
- Produce a working group-development strategy for ARCADIA - design and support the implementation of working groups in ARCADIA on:

1. Romania's relations with various areas of the world/countries (for example an existing working group within ARCADIA is focused on Romania-Africa relations, one of the future working groups could focus on the Romania-Black Sea region);
2. Development and international cooperation related issues (e.g.: foreign policy, trade and development, gender equality, economic development, etc)).

- Identify working group coordinators together with ARCADIA’s board;
- Identify experts, scholars, students, practitioners, and policymakers who focus on the areas corresponding to ARCADIA existent or projected working groups and invite them to join ARCADIA;
- Assist the working group coordinators in their work, have regular meetings and discuss the development of the respective working group;
- Facilitate the development of new ARCADIA working groups;
- Monitor the activity of ARCADIA working groups;
- Report to the Board on the activity of working groups.

This position would require around 4 hours of your time per week.
