Environment (WG-Env)

The Group’s mission is to promote quality in the process of environmental policy research and protection.

Strategic Directions

  • Providing resources for dialog and partnership between people - those living abroad as well as local professionals, (public, academic and non profit actors) and organizations - with the objective of environmental protection.
  • Improving the process of environmental public policy development in Romania through policy research and dissemination of good practices.
  • Promoting good practices at the level of Romanian public sector in the field of environmental protection.

Project for the group By 2010, create a (on line based) community, gathering professionals and organizations (from Romania and abroad). The community will have a distinct identity and will be the virtual place for exchanging ideas, positions, and expertise. Watching the process of EU environmental policy implementation in Romania by publishing at least a monitoring report per year. Write reports and studies about environmental issues in Romania.

GRSPSociety's newest working group will be headed by Dan Bărbulescu. Dan is currently Programs Director at Save Danube and Delta Association and is a graduate of Queen Mary, University of London, with a MSc in Public Policy. If you want to start to influence the way environmental protection is undertaken in Romania contact Dan Barbulescu at dan.barbulescu@grspsociety.org. You could propose projects or brainstorm new ideas.

Andrei Popovici

I received my BA from Yale University, where I double-majored in Economics and Literature, and I've worked for two years as a businesss consultant in Boston. I'm currently serving on the board of GRSPSociety and coordinating the Diaspora Votes project. For fun, I'm also translating Mateiu Caragiale's Craii de Curtea Veche into English, the continuation of my honors thesis project at Yale - in 2011, look for a copy in bookstores near you! As a founding member of GRSPSociety and a dual Romanian and US citizen living in the US, I believe in GRSPSociety's huge potential for encouraging a culture of civic participation and professional collaboration in Romania as well as in Romanian communities abroad.

Activity: Co-founder & communications team member (2008); Boston conference organizer & DP panel moderator, extended board member (2009); Vice President of External Relations, Diaspora Votes (DP) project leader (2010)
